10 Mar Anaka’s All Stars
The world’s premier men’s haircare line, American CREW supports classic, manageable style that while modern in feel and texture, is all about traditional design; the fundamental barbering techniques Anaka’s Lou and Portia are just so good at!
Each year, CREW invites hairdressers across the world to enter a photographic competition whereby they present a professional black and white head shot of a male model presenting a hair design cut and styled by them.
“I love entering American CREW because it’s always about classic masculinity, timelessness and a trip through the history of men’s hair design. It’s a great excuse to get well-acquainted with current trends while expressing myself creatively through the craft,” says Portia.
Shot by photographer Amanda Attard, while Lou borrowed inspiration from classic American Hollywood film, Portia channeled the very modern concept of gender fluidity and individual-style.
“I thought I would incorporate the two (modern and classic) into my entry this year. Using soft pastes and styling texture sprays, we accentuated our model Alfie’s natural wave to keep a feminine feel in his look, while my second model Mark was styled for a more classic feel using strong gels and waxes,” said Portia.
While Lou or Portia didn’t take out the position of National winner, we’re incredibly proud of their efforts and can’t wait to see what they produce for next year’s CREW Challenge!
